Travelling to Australia with kiddo

Traveling with 1 year old can be very challenging, from the airplane to the land travel.. Me and my hubby + our 15 months daughter, Chloe, finally went to Australia last December, and we took Garuda because it required no transit from Jakarta to Sydney and only 6.5 hours. Can you imagine if we need to transit in Singapore or Bali, our daughter will be very cranky and we'll be exhausted.

Before traveling, make sure you have all MUST have items below:

1. A good baby carrier. My carrier is Boba 4G, I bought it when my daughter 9 months old, and it still works perfectly until now. The fabric is very thick and strong, very recommended! In Indonesia, you can buy it in almost all online shop, such as Lazada, price around 1.4 million IDR. Fortunately, I bought mine secondhand (only used few times according to the mom) through Instagram.
Or if you prefer portable and light stroller or pram, it would save your back, but sometimes baby would refuse to be in pram, but they wouldn't refuse to be carried by you, human instinct :)

2. Powder milk. My daughter drinks sterilized (UHT) milk after she's 1 year old, but it is safer to bring powder milk to pass the airport security. If you bring liquid more than 100ml, they will ask what is it for and blah blah.. save your time, just bring powder milk, and ask for hot water on the plane.

3. Don't forget to bring extra clothes and diapers. Chloe's (my daughter) clothes is almost half of our luggage. First, because baby always spill something or wet their clothes, so always bring extra. Second, diapers are the cheapest in Indonesia, so save your money to buy diaper in Australia or elsewhere (I went to China and it's double the price in Indonesia), and some diapers can develop rash in your babies skin. It's safer to use the brand that you usually use.

4. Bring baby medicines. The most often disease for babies is fever and flu. Always bring those 2 medicines, to save you from panicking. Traveling is not only tiring for the parents, but also for the babies. If you forgot to bring it, you can always buy it in the pharmacy, but if you're not traveling to English-speaking country, this can be a nightmare.

5. Bring jacket, despite the weather forecast. 4 season country can be tricky, although it's summer but the wind can be very strong and better to use precaution for your baby. Jacket also can be useful on the plane if the air-con is too cold.

6. Bring their favorite toys. Your baby can be very cranky on the plane, and airline are very stingy in giving the toys although we have paid around 500K-1 million IDR for the baby, and we just get infant seatbelt! Garuda gave us baby meal in bottle (It's heinz baby meal), and one tiny bag with finger toy in it. Very ineffective to calm the baby. Plus, when we're going to Sydney, all bassinet seats already taken so we are seating in normal seat which can be very cramped with baby sitting on your lap. My daughter feeling cramped and she couldn't sleep properly the entire flight. We ended up very tired when arriving in Sydney.

I think that's all the MUST have items when traveling with baby or toddler. The rest, is nice to have items, such as baby foods if s/he have difficulty eating normal foods, etc. We did bring Milna baby food because Chloe is just learning to chew, so we bring liquid food in case she doesn't want to eat. And it proven, we finish the baby food even before the trip ended -__-

So, here's the pic of us in Sydney!
You can see that the carrier really works for us while she's sleeping.
I will tell more about our itineraries of traveling with kiddo without tour in my next post, see ya!
